Salugen Receives Award for Nutrigenomic Research from the Natural Products Association
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2007 -- Salugen, Inc., a personalized health and wellness company, announces today that it's abstract presented at the Scientific Poster Session of the Natural Products Association's 70th Annual National Convention and Trade Show was awarded the Bronze Prize for its nutrigenomics research involving unwanted weight. The poster is entitled, "DNA-customized Genotrim [neuronal dopamine release activator results in significant reductions in weight, appetite and sugar cravings in an obese population in the Dietary Investigation to Evaluate Treatments (D.I.E.T.) pilot study. Polymorphic gene correlates of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS)."
According to Salugen Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Kenneth Blum, "This study demonstrates that GenoTrim, a DNA-customized nutritional supplement for weight management, is a potentially effective agent in reducing weight and improving symptomatic RDS behaviors. We are also proposing that for persons possessing candidate reward gene polymorphisms resulting in physiological deficits in brain reward neurotransmitters, utilizing a dopaminergic type d2 receptor agonist, such as GenoTrim, can activate the neuronal release of dopamine in the nucleus acumbens. By activating neuronal DA release one would expect that an individual's reinforcing effects derived from any natural reward (i.e. daily experiences, food, sex, love, etc.) will be enhanced. We cautiously suggest that DNA directed targeting of certain regulator genes along with a customized nutraceutical intervention provides a unique framework and strategic modality to combat unwanted weight."
Dr. Blum, who is also a professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine goes onto say, "We look forward to publishing several papers explaining the very interesting results of the Dietary Investigation to Evaluate Treatments (D.I.E.T.) Study."
Salugen CEO, Brian Meshkin, states, "We are honored by the selection committee's award for our research, now for two consecutive years. The Natural Products Association is a very well-respected organization and we are grateful for our relationship with them. Salugen is proud of our extensive scientific publications, years of research, record of clinical studies, and extensive intellectual property that sets us apart from other companies involved in nutrigenomics. This award continues to validate our scientific and rational approach to this very important unmet need."
The Scientific Poster Session, held annually at the association's meeting, provides a forum for researchers to present their scientific data, findings and validation to attendees in an intimate setting. Attendees are able to learn about developments and talk one-on-one with researchers and authors of the posters. Winning posters are chosen for awards based on an evaluation of both the scientific content and presentation technique of the poster. Scientific content is to be judged on the basis of creativity, correctness of methods, significance of the work and familiarity with prior research. The presentation technique is to be judged on the basis of the clarity of the poster, graphical design including readability.
