Milwaukee School of Engineering to Showcase Revolutionary, New, Fluid Power Safety Valve

Milwaukee, WI (WilsonWeb) July 12, 2007 -- The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) will showcase the Lo-Co SMART Valve? on July 13, 2007, during their Summer in the City Annual Alumni Reunion Weekend. Unlike anything ever designed, the patent pending, Lo-Co SMART Valve? can distinguish the difference between a flow surge during normal equipment operation and an unexpected line break. In the event of a line break, the Lo-Co SMART Valve? can shut-off flow in less than 20 Millionths of a second, thereby protecting the equipment, the equipment operator and the environment.

"We designed a safety shut-off valve that protects equipment operators from the hazards associated with fluid power equipment operation. If a worker is operating fluid powered machinery and a line breaks, there is no fast-acting, safety shut-off device that will immediately stop high pressure fluid from being released into the atmosphere. In the event of a line break, high pressure fluid can severely burn the equipment operator, damage expensive equipment and contaminate the environment," states Donald M. Loper, President and Founder of Lo-Co Safety Valve, LLC.

Unlike other mechanical or electronic safety shut-off valves, the Lo-Co SMART Valve? can be placed in the pressure supply line right after the relief valve. In this position, the valve can detect the distinct difference between the flow surges that occur during normal equipment operation and an unexpected line break. In the event of a line break, the Lo-Co SMART Valve? immediately stops fluid from being released into the atmosphere. This fast-acting protection guards against many of the hazards, injuries and expenses that are commonly associated with fluid power equipment operation.

"There are tremendous expenses attributed to the lack of full system safety protection in the Fluid Power Equipment Industry," states David Cobus, Vice President of Product Design and Manufacturing for Lo-Co Safety Valve. "For example, the cost of oil replacement, worker's compensation claims, environmental clean-up, fines and the expenses relating to litigation, if someone becomes seriously injured as the result of a line break."

Lo-Co Safety Valve, LLC, has developed a safety shut-off valve that can be easily retrofitted or customized to fit any piece of Industrial or Commercial fluid power equipment.

"We believe our valve is an economical and cost-effective safety solution for a world-wide Industrial and Commercial fluid power equipment market," states Jean Kulig, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Lo-Co Safety Valve. "We are extremely grateful to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) for giving us the opportunity to present our Lo-Co SMART Valve? to their distinguished Alumni. We also owe our gratitude to Dr. Medhat Khalil, MSOE's Instructor of Fluid Power and Motion for designing the mathematical model that validated our SMART valve design. We hope that the Lo-Co SMART Valve? will stir up some excitement in the Fluid Power Industry to get more people talking and doing something about safety."
