Natural Jewelry Collection Reflects Unique Cultural Styles
Sugar Land, TX (PRWeb) March 7, 2007 -- When Vickie Alleman would shop for jewelry in department stores, she couldn't find anything that fit her unique style. When she went browsing at jewelry stores, all of the jewelry was made of glass or plastic and everything looked the same. She began searching for jewelry that was made of natural stones, leading to the development of her own jewelry line, Mystic Jewels.
As a native of New Orleans, Vickie was inspired by the Fleur-de-Lis and Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold when she began creating necklaces, bracelets, earrings and watches from semi-precious stones such as amethyst, jasper and jade. Like many artisans, she began working with semi-precious stones as an outlet for her creativity. Soon it turned into a business when friends and family members started asking her to design jewelry for them.
"I love wearing jewelry everywhere," says Vickie. "It makes a statement and makes me feel good. I noticed that when I would wear certain stones, my stress level would go down or I would feel very joyful. That's when I tapped into the healing power of natural stones and began seriously designing my own jewelry line."
Mystic Jewels has developed a niche by specializing in creating jewelry from semi-precious stones focused on cultural themes. All of the collections are inspired by cultures with a distinctive style. The New Orleans Collection features sterling silver fleur-de-lis and Mardi Gras charms, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants. One of the bracelets features a sterling silver Streetcar with the name Desire engraved on it.
The African collection features semi-precious stones such as South African Pink Opal, Botswana Agate, and Tigers Eye. The Southwest Collection is highlighted by turquoise, coral, carnelian, and Navajo silver beads. A recent addition is semi-precious stone necklaces and earrings with Judaica symbols such as the Star of David and the menorah.
"I have friends from all walks of life and different cultural and religious traditions, so my jewelry reflects that variety," says Vickie. "Now that I live in Texas, I am inspired by the Southwest style of jewelry with semi-precious stones such as turquoise, coral and Navajo silver beads. I've found a great Navajo jewelry artist who provides hand-made bracelets designed with leaves of sterling silver and turquoise gems."
Many women are attracted to the colors of the semi-precious gems. One customer, Laura Putkey, from Houston, Texas said that she was complimented on her Southwest jewelry constantly on the first day she wore a necklace and earring set. "I was wearing the turquoise necklace and earrings with an all black outfit. I was at work for 2 1/2 hours and received five compliments by 11 am!"
Mystic Jewels offers jewelry with semi-precious stones such as pink opal, Botswana agate, coral, carnelian, yellow jade, amethyst, fancy jasper, black onyx, rose quartz, Tigers eye, turquoise, and a variety of jaspers and agates. Sterling silver and Hill Tribes Silver, which is 99% pure, are used for clasps and pendants. A unique combination of pewter, sterling silver, and antique gold pewter are used in many of the jewelry designs.
